Bazooka Joe and WWII

August 6th, 2008

Vintage candy. Bazooka Bubble Gum. World War II. What do they have in common?

Of course, you know that the Bubble Gum is vintage gum. But, did you know….

Everything seems to revolve around WWII. Bazooka Bubble Gum is no different. Did you realize that the name, the packaging was no accident? No kidding! Of course, you recognize the color of the packaging: red, white, and blue. Bazooka Bubble Gum came into being shortly after the war.

Do you know where the name came from? After a little research, I found that the name of the gum was not named after the armor piercing weapon used in WWII, but was named after Bob Burns, the entertainer. You see, he developed a musical weapon from two gas pipes and a funnel in the 1930s and called it the Bazooka. I wonder IF the name of the armor was, in fact named from the same? Some claim that it was.

Come and check out our varieties of gum and candy. Yes, they are all vintage. We even have more trivia on our website.

Nostalgic..vintage…ours is the best no matter how you package it

August 6th, 2008

We offer you great vintage candy. We offer you great looking packages to present it in. We offer you nostalgic candy.

We all know the definition of candy. Let’s take a closer look at the other two.

What is the definition of “vintage”? Websters defines it as “representative of or dating from a period long past”. It also defines vintage as “of a good period, choice, representative of the best”.

What is the definition of “nostalgic”? Again, Websters defines it as “a longing to go back to one’s home, homesickness” or “ a longing for something far away or long ago”. Or how about this one: “ longing for former happy circumstances”

We hereby offer you the best, the oldest and the way to fill that longing. Our vintage candy can’t be beat. Not in it’s variety (we have over 40), and not in it’s nostalgia. And definitely not in it’s pricing or packaging.

The civil war and… jelly beans?

August 6th, 2008

Our vintage candy company specializes in nostalgia. It specializes in fun and memories. We also love trivia. Admit it, so do you. So, let’s learn about … jelly beans

I uncovered something really interesting about jelly beans. I know that (regardless of age) we all grew up with them. In fact, they are so old that jelly beans were reportedly advertised as early as the 1860’s when William Shraft claims to have sent them to Union soldiers as treats during the Civil War!

As much as we love fun facts, we want to serve you. We have pounded the candy walk pavement and found all of your vintage candy favorites. We didn’t take a break. In fact, we have worked so hard, that we have, in our archaeological dig, found over 40 varieties for your pleasure. We have also created a variety of packages for you to chose from.

These would look great on any antique shelf, whether in your home, store or shop. So, why don’t you take a few minutes and browse our website. You can view some more fascinating facts, and then place an order for these wonderful candies, so full of memories.

Vintage candy…ah..the good ol’ times

August 6th, 2008

Licorice, like all of our vintage candy, has been around for a long time. Hence, the word “vintage” candy. However, Licorice has been around a lot longer than you might guess.

Licorice, a favorite among movie- goers, was found (in licorice root form) in King Tut’s tomb. It was used as a cure-all for everything from curing “thirst and hunger” to curing kidney disorders. And just about everything in between, including stomach problems and coughs. Licorice in root form, was used during the middle ages to help with food poisoning, and was so popular in 1305 that it was taxed in England to help repair the London Bridge!

Our company offers much more than just licorice. We offer nostalgia and fun in over 40 varieties. Think about that the next time you want to throw a 50’s sock hop. What better way to have a conversation started than “Do you remember…?”

We’ve got exciting vintage candy!

August 6th, 2008

Looking for something different, something fun? Try our vintage candies! They are truly vintage candy, and most of them do have a an interesting background.

One with an fascinating background were candy cigarettes, also referred to as candy sticks. You could blow the powdered sugar so that it looked like you were exhaling smoke and then, of course, you would wrap the cigarettes under the sleeve of your T-shirt. Among the “tough, cool” kids of the 50’s, and 60’s, it was definitely a fun thing to do, with it’s red tip (did you know that on the bubble gum version the wax paper wrapping simulates a filtered cigarette?) They are still available with brands being sold in Spiderman, Popeye and Tom & Jerry varieties. What a way to go for those who didn’t really want to smoke (mostly due to parents wrath), but wanted to look cool anyway!

We offer over 40 types of vintage candy…all in great looking packages. Check us out, browse through our many varieties!

Vintage. What does it mean?

May 8th, 2008

Vintage. It is a term used for wine. For a cigar. It’s a flat thread with an antique finish. What do we mean by vintage?

We’re talking vintage candy! For us, it defines: great, old, memories, fun, nostalgia. Not in any particular order, but there it is.

We offer 48 types of vintage candy. Old time candy. Great candy. Fun candy. We offer it in retro lunch boxes (retro=just another word for vintage!) that will look great at your home, office, party, get together. You can’t bring back memories like this for this great price. It all costs under $20! Who can put a price on laughter, friends, food, fun and memories? I can’t.

Here’s an idea. How about buying a box or two, and showing your kids what REAL candy is all about? And you can show it off in the packaging. That in itself is a great discussion topic.

I did this with my kids. They looked in the box and said, “What’s this?” “What does this taste like?” Being teens, they were a little skeptical to try anything that didn’t start with the words “sour”. But they loved it! Create a memory night for those you love.

Atomic fireballs and Elvis. What do they have in common?

May 8th, 2008

One  type of vintage candy is the Atomic Fireball. This candy was invented in 1954 and quickly became one of the most popular types of candy in the candy store. They were HOT! Many children began challenging each other to see who could eat the most in one setting. What was your score?

What do Atomic Fireballs  have in common with Elvis Presley? He didn’t release any movies.  No platinum or gold albums.  BUT, he did do some 45’s in July and was well on his way to becoming “HOT”!

They have one other thing in common.  They are both offered on our website!  You can order 48 varities of vintage candy, and have it packaged in  over 20 styles of packages ranging from decorated boxes to retro lunch boxes.

The choice is yours.  Not necessarily simple, but yours!  Though the choices are  not simple, we do make the rest of the process easy.

Vintage candy, vintage look

May 8th, 2008

Who cares about the contents of a box? We do. Think Bazooka Joe.Who cares about the look of a container? We do. Think Betty BoopWe take pride in what we offer. What is that? Over forty kinds of 50’s and 60’s vintage candy offered in retro style lunch boxes! Our candy is not duplicated and you have a choice of over 19 boxes to choose from!

Our vintage candy is a pure walk down memory lane. It belongs in boutiques, gas stations, 50’s diners, antique store shelves, and face it…why not in your home or on your desk? What a great conversation starter!

Betty Boop made her first appearance on August 9, 1930. Her character was modeled after a combination of Helen Kane, the famous popular singer of the 1920s and contract player at Paramount Pictures, and Clara Bow who was a popular actress in the 1920s who had a strong Brooklyn accent.

What about Bazooka? It was first marketed shortly after World War II in the U.S. by the Topps Company based in Brooklyn, New York.
